ARTIST'S STATEMENT - CAROLINE LEVIS View Sample Paintings

Caroline Levis is an artist completely in touch with her chosen medium of watercolour. She specialises in sensuous Impressionist landscapes and nature paintings. After 25 years experience of watercolours, such is her skill at capturing the right colour, and sense of movement (or stillness), that one feels she must have painted all her works en-plein-air. In any event, Levis seems to have mastered that delicate balance between lightness of touch and boldness of expression which is characteristic of all outstanding watercolourists.

Born in Dublin, she was educated in Trinity College and the National College of Art and Design. She is not a full-time artist and divides her time between her Dublin Studio, the family home in West Cork, and summer workshops in Crete. As well as producing works for exhibitions, and executing commissions, she also gives regular courses on watercolour, for beginners upwards, both in Dublin and West Cork.

Influenced from an early age by Impressionism, Levis has a loose style, but one perfectly suited to her subject matter, whether it be the raw coastline of Ireland or the softer rainbow locations of the Mediterranean. And her treatment of light, heat and water is uniformly impressive.
